OASIS CAUSEWAY

Oasis Causeway 0017

We were delighted to officially launch Oasis Causeway in April 2014.  We assist a wide variety of people in the local area out of our new premises in Abbey Street, Coleraine, having moved in June from our original location in New Row, Coleraine.

Our staff/volunteers support people with a range of issues; providing services for people aged 18+ who have experienced trauma, and need support to work through their situation. We have helped people with issues involving breakdown of relationships, bereavement, loneliness, unemployment, poverty, stress, health and well-being concerns, addictions, housing etc.

This is facilitated through one to one support, befriending, mentoring and counselling services.  We deliver courses on Building Confidence and Self-Esteem, and Life Skills Development (including Making Better Choices).  Health and Wellbeing Programmes include our Purple Princesses Women’s Group and Breakfast Club, Our Health Matters, Alcohol and Drug Awareness, and Confidence and Motivation courses.

We operate a Drop-in Service on two mornings per week: Tuesdays and Fridays, from 11.00am to 1.00pm.  Tuesdays are always for health focus including our Community Pharmacy Project ‘Our Health Matters’.  Fridays allow people to connect and prepare for the weekend by focusing on their well-being. We held a selection of one-off information sessions on Health, Diet, Mood Management, and Prejudice. We even hosted a number of Laughter Workshops; for as you know ‘laughter is the best medicine’!

Our Emergency Food Store provides emergency non-perishable food for those in need. In 2014 we distributed food to seventy-eight individuals, and an additional fifteen substantial hampers in December; this represents over 200 bags of groceries and personal care items. A huge thank you to all those who donate to ‘the cupboard’, we could not do this otherwise!

Oasis Causeway works in partnership with other agencies in the Causeway Coast, and wider Coleraine area, to connect service users to existing local or specialist services.  Service users now have an even greater range of facilities available to them via our new branch.

Service Delivery for Oasis Causeway is funded by the Department for Social Development (DSD), Community Development and Health Network (CDHN), Public Health Agency (PHA), and public donations; and is staffed by 99% volunteers.  We have 22 volunteers in befriending, drop-in support, counsellors, administration, and steering group; and 1 paid member of staff funded by DSD/Neighbourhood Renewal.

Oasis Causeway works to significantly enhance services in the Causeway community; and continues with the ethos of Oasis Caring in Action to ‘Transform Lives, Transform Communities’.
