THE IMAGO PROFESSIONAL BEFRIENDING PROJECT is designed to help people who are going through a time of personal crisis, by helping them regain their confidence and self-esteem.
Imago offers help to people have mild to moderate mental ill health; providing professional befriending support to people seeking to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement or loneliness. Please note: Imago is not a Counselling service.
After an initial referral from the GP, or other health professional, each potential client is assessed by an Imago Project Manager. If they are suitable and want to use the service, the client is matched with an Imago Befriender who will meet with them once a week for up to 3-6 months. We also take self referrals through local community groups.
Meeting with a Befriender could include going for walks, going out for coffee, taking part in local activities, having a friendly chat, or help with anxieties such as getting out and about on public transport. Activities are tailored to meet individual needs. We are delighted that a number of our clients have returned to work, or enrolled in education classes to pursue qualifications or new careers. Imago also offers Drop-In Sessions, a Personal Development Group, and a Men’s Breakfast Group for both current and past clients.
