A New Term Begins

Well here we are  now 8 weeks into our second year as a project and it has been a fantastic start. Our new cohort of young people have been settling in well and we can already see the changes begin to happen. As well as 11 new young people on board we have new volunteers to welcome as well. We have two new volunteers helping support our young people and they have both already found a place in our little family. We’ve lots of exciting stuff happening on the Youth Ways project including a new iMedia qualification which will teach our young people how to do computer game programming, audio visual editing and graphic design. As well as this all our young people have started to have art as a timetabled subject which has been a great creative addition to our curriculum. There’s more to come though so watch this space.

Oasis Antrim is expanding!

After much planning and some waiting the day has finally come, and we now have builders in at our Centre at 10d High Street who are opening up a second floor in our premises. Once the work is done we will have two great new spaces to use and we will be glad for it as the centre is getting busy. Not only is the Youth Ways project a major focus in our centre but we also have many others using the building and new projects being started as well. Our new ‘It’s time for the girls’ programme has made a great start and we also have  The Compassionate Friends, Youth Justice, Antrim CFC and local music tutors Antrim Music Academy using our centre regularly.

It’s Time for the Girls…

Our new course for women – ‘It’s Time for The Girls ‘ started in October. The group meets every Thursday for coffee and scones and discusses topics such as, Sleeping Well, Making our Money go Further, and Good Mood Food. So far, we’ve enjoyed a really useful information session from Amie, our local pharmacist, on the services her shop provides and this week we’ll be looking at how we can make our thoughts work for us in a positive way. Later in the year we’ll be taking a day trip to the Titanic Exhibition in Belfast. It really is Time for The Girls and we’re making the most of it!
