It’s been a busy summer for Youth Ways and one of our highlights has been our big launch in June. It was a fantastic turnout with some very important guests coming out to see for themselves the hard work going on here in Oasis Antrim. Amongst our distinguished guests were MLA David Ford ,Chief executive NICCY Mairéad McCafferty, Local Politician Danny Kinehan, and former Lord Mayer Roy Thompson. A special thanks has to go to Our funders at the Big Lottery for making this all possible As well as a big thank you to the rest of the Oasis team in East Belfast for their continued support. It was a great day for everyone in the project and we are particularly proud of some of our young people who came along to represent the project. We are hopeful that this marks the start of Oasis making a real impact on the Antrim area in the years to come.
Two weeks of great fun and plenty of miles on the minibus later and the summer scheme has now come to an end. We have had a brilliant time with some of the young people of Antrim and judging by the reactions they thoroughly enjoyed it too. There have been some great moments including watching one rather tall young man paddling his kayak with feet hanging out the boat because he said it was more comfortable! We’ve seen our pacifist project manager turn into a wannabe Rambo in laser tag and even found time to have some good old fashioned fun hunting for crabs on our picturesque Antrim coast.
Of course thanks have to go to Antrim Burough Council and the Voluntary and Community Unit of the DSD in helping fund this summer scheme. Now that summer is coming to a close though we are now looking excitedly to September when our brand new intake arrives and the project kicks of a new school year. bring it on!
Here we are at the midway point of our first ever summer project and We’re proud to say it’s been brilliant so far. We have had different groups of young people doing everything from climbing to snow-tubing, Ice-skating to banana boating and even deep sea fishing. Our young people have really enjoyed the programme so far and we have even found time to put something back into the community by doing a clean up around the riverside area and Mill Race trail. Week 2 here we come!
